I kind of made a risky decision and decided to book a flight with short layover periods. Both are with us airways. The first is a connection at Charlotte Douglas International. It is a 40 min period between my flight from milwaukee to my flight to pheonix. The second flight sounds even worse with a connection from my flight from charlotte in pheonix sky harbor. It is also a 40 min period but this time im flying out international to mexico. What im asking is if these connections are doable and if so by how much? Please share experiance if any and thanks for answering.

It's not entirely impossible to make those short connections, but there is a very high risk of missing at least one of them. I never accept a connection this short. Remember that if your connecting flight is scheduled to take off 40 minutes after your first flight arrives, boarding will start 30 - 40 minutes before scheduled take off and the gate will close 10 - 15 minutes before the scheduled take off. That cuts down your margin. Further, while the arrival time may be 40 minutes before the next flight, taxiing to the gate and unloading the plane will take time. Flights are not early all that often.

Ring the airline and ask their advice. Be aware that most international flights require you to be at the airport two hours before the flight leaves.
